What colour do you consider for Kidney Disease Awareness?

I always considered the colour to be green. Not because it stands for Organ Donation but because it also stands for Kidney Disease according to numerous sites.

Yet remember when DaVita sold blue wrist bands?
(The blue ones said “Kidney Health”)

Now the National Kidney Foundation (USA) is selling orange wrist bands. The thing is .. I personally think the colour is important because how many people are going to stop and look at what your wrist band even says? The colour symbolizes what we wear it for!
(The orange ones say “Love Your Kidneys”)

My own Kidney Foundation of Canada had green ones but stopped selling them (at least in my city) because they say that it is outdated and no one does the green wrist band thing anymore.
(The green ones say “Live 2 Share”)

So .. what are YOUR thoughts on this?

I'd always thought of green cos of the connection with donating - but I didn't know that till last year anyway.  I was really only aware of pink being breast cancer!  I love the wrist band things and I think it is good to have a little something that is easy for people to buy.

Last year NKF in the states changed there motto to end the wait, with that came the new wrist band color.  The year before, they also changed there logo which is now orange as well.  I think its confusing since green was always the color associated with kidneys.  In 2003, I did volunteer training with Mid-America Transplant services, our OPO here in St. Louis, and they gave us double ribbons.  Green for kidney and gold for organ donation.  I will bring my green and gold pin to the transplant games and hopefully get a picture of it.  I've never seen anyone else possess a ribbon pin like this one.

Thanks for that Jules! Yes it seems that for Kidneys that it is up to the different foundations to make up a colour based on either their company's colours or what ever just to get awareness going. There seems to be no set colour even though years ago I did research it at the time it seemed undoubtedly green. Wonder why all these foundations don't want to use green anymore? My Kidney Foundation said they don't want to step on anyone's toes..  dontknow

So far it seems then there has been green, blue, orange and gold.
